It's session time again! This Friday, August 17th, is the Dudley's Celtic Music Session. It's a free (though it's nice to buy a book or a treat to support the wonderful hosts) opportunity to listen to some wonderful tunes. Starting at around 6, local musicians will play and sing and sometimes even dance. It's a wonderful time and we highly recommend it!

Altan is an Irish music band that plays everything from old songs to jigs and reels. We've even used a couple of their songs for Ceili Class. In an excellent display of taste, the Sisters Folk Festival is bringing them in as part of their Free Summer Concert Series. This Thursday (tomorrow) they will be playing in Fir Street Park starting at 6:30. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy! Hope to see you there. #meesesighting
Hi everyone,
In case you don't want to go all the way to Portland to start getting pumped up for St. Patrick's Day, we're happy to tell you about another option right here in Bend! It's free (though Dudley's does have tasty treats and it's polite get something) and an excellent way to spend a Friday night. Go enjoy some music (and maybe some books on Ireland too!) and jumpstart your St. Patrick's Day! It's third Friday in Bend, you know what that means: Celtic Music Session at Dudley's (135 NW Minnesota) tonight! Starting around 6pm they'll be playing traditional Irish and Scottish tunes. It's always a grand time, so come out and support local musicians and a local bookstore. Hope to see you there!
How do I love thee, Dudley's Celtic Music Session? Let me count the ways:
1. Great music 2. Free 3. Comfy and welcoming atmosphere 4. Delicious treats 5. Local book store 6. Friendly people 7. Conveniently downtown 8. Relaxing activity for a Friday night after a hard week 9. Local musicians supporting each other and their favorite hangout That's a bunch of ways! No wonder I like going so much! See for yourself tonight at 6:30 at Dudley's Bookshop Cafe. Hope to see you there! -Griff P.S. There's even a possibility of a Meese sighting! If you don't want to travel all the way to Portland to join in the St. Patrick's Day festivities, you're in luck! Tonight is the Celtic Music Session at Dudley's (135 NW Minnesota Avenue) right here in Bend.
They'll start playing around 6pm and go until 9 or so. If you're lucky someone will sing a song or two, and there might even be some dancing! To borrow the lovely Michele's description, "Come and listen or join in. We play traditional music from Ireland and Scotland, and if we are lucky, someone might give us a song or two. All are welcome. We try to follow the rules of traditional sessions (or at least the general guidelines!)--we play the tune in unison a few times, then switch on the fly." No Meese this month, but you guys should still go! It's always a grand time! Parade time! Ceili of the Valley Society is holding their annual St. Patrick's Day parade tomorrow, departing promptly from the Salem Riverfront Carousel at 12 noon. Go show off your Irish spirit, and support an awesome organization and culture!
For more info, check out their Facebook event. Standing up for civil rights can be hard. But it doesn't always have to be. Sometimes, it's as simple as listening--to the music in this case. Tomorrow, March 5th, from 2 to 6pm, Dudley's Celtic Session and The Old Time Jam are partnering with the ACLU to hold a Sanctuary Session at Dudley's Bookshop and Cafe (135 NW Minnesota Ave).
Sanctuary Sessions are a coast-to-coast benefit for civil rights being run by traditional music groups across the country. So come enjoy some great music, and be part of a national movement to support civil rights along the way. Entry is free, and donations to the ACLU are encouraged. It's Celtic Music Session time again! I'm borrowing the description from the lovely Michele's email because it make me smile, "Have you seriously thought about finishing that old macrame project you found in the closet? Are you at level 805 of Two Dots? You've spent hours watching cat videos on the YouTubes? Find yourself staring mutely at the piles of snow surrounding your windows? Are your fingers stubbornly clenched, as if around the handle of a snow shovel? Sweetie, you have cabin fever. Get out of your jammies, put down the bag of Oreos, come on in to town and play some tunes. It's for your own good.
Dudley's Bookshop Cafe will host the regular Third Friday Session on January 20, beginning around 6:30pm. Come and listen or join in. We play traditional music from Ireland and Scotland, and if we are lucky, someone might give us a song or two. All are welcome. We try to follow the rules of traditional sessions (or at least the general guidelines!)--we play the tune in unison a few times, then switch on the fly." Come check it out! There won't be dancing Meese this week because the Moose is out of town, but the Mouse might be there to listen and hang out and she would love to see you! :) To quote the event description from Facebook, "This family-friendly performance features lively instrumental tunes on fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes and harp, along with thrilling Irish dancing from Samantha Harvey. In addition, evocative photographic images provide a backdrop to some of the rich historical traditions of Ireland. Take a memorable glimpse into the enchanting spirit of Christmas, as the finest traditional artists from Ireland, bring you on a fun-filled start to the holiday season of 2016."
Irish Christmas in America is taking place at the Sherwood Center for the Arts in Sherwood, Oregon tomorrow night at 7:30pm. It sounds like a lot of fun! There are definitely still tickets left--$25 each. Check it out if you get the chance and let us know how it is. I've never gotten to go, but I really want to! More info here and here.
