It's session time again! This Friday, August 17th, is the Dudley's Celtic Music Session. It's a free (though it's nice to buy a book or a treat to support the wonderful hosts) opportunity to listen to some wonderful tunes. Starting at around 6, local musicians will play and sing and sometimes even dance. It's a wonderful time and we highly recommend it!
Hi everyone,
In case you don't want to go all the way to Portland to start getting pumped up for St. Patrick's Day, we're happy to tell you about another option right here in Bend! The Celtic Music Session is a monthly session that happens at Dudley's Bookshop (135 NW Minnesota Avenue) on the third Friday of every month. They'll be playing from about 6pm to around 9pm. It's free (though Dudley's does have tasty treats and it's polite get something) and an excellent way to spend a Friday night. Go enjoy some music (and maybe some books on Ireland too!) and jumpstart your St. Patrick's Day! Come celebrate with us at ceili class tonight from 7:30-9pm at Gotta Dance (917 NE 8th Street). Your first class is free and it's $5 per class after that. Don't forget a water bottle and dance shoes. Hope to see you there!
If you're looking for something fun to do tonight, here's your thing! Crows Feet Commons (875 NW Brooks Street) is holding a Pop-Up Contra Dance from 7pm to 9pm with live music and calling during the Art Walk tonight. It's a free event and a fun way to try a related style of dance. Go check it out!

How do I love thee, Dudley's Celtic Music Session? Let me count the ways:
1. Great music 2. Free 3. Comfy and welcoming atmosphere 4. Delicious treats 5. Local book store 6. Friendly people 7. Conveniently downtown 8. Relaxing activity for a Friday night after a hard week 9. Local musicians supporting each other and their favorite hangout That's a bunch of ways! No wonder I like going so much! See for yourself tonight at 6:30 at Dudley's Bookshop Cafe. Hope to see you there! -Griff P.S. There's even a possibility of a Meese sighting! If you don't want to travel all the way to Portland to join in the St. Patrick's Day festivities, you're in luck! Tonight is the Celtic Music Session at Dudley's (135 NW Minnesota Avenue) right here in Bend.
They'll start playing around 6pm and go until 9 or so. If you're lucky someone will sing a song or two, and there might even be some dancing! To borrow the lovely Michele's description, "Come and listen or join in. We play traditional music from Ireland and Scotland, and if we are lucky, someone might give us a song or two. All are welcome. We try to follow the rules of traditional sessions (or at least the general guidelines!)--we play the tune in unison a few times, then switch on the fly." No Meese this month, but you guys should still go! It's always a grand time! Standing up for civil rights can be hard. But it doesn't always have to be. Sometimes, it's as simple as listening--to the music in this case. Tomorrow, March 5th, from 2 to 6pm, Dudley's Celtic Session and The Old Time Jam are partnering with the ACLU to hold a Sanctuary Session at Dudley's Bookshop and Cafe (135 NW Minnesota Ave).
Sanctuary Sessions are a coast-to-coast benefit for civil rights being run by traditional music groups across the country. So come enjoy some great music, and be part of a national movement to support civil rights along the way. Entry is free, and donations to the ACLU are encouraged. Are you having a hard time waiting for Ceili class to come back? Me too. But don't despair, fellow dance people! This Saturday, Bend Community Contra Dance is having their monthly dance at the Pine Forest Grange at 63214 Boyd Acres Road, Bend. The dance will start at 7pm and go until 9:30. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students.
Have fun! For more info, check out their Facebook page or the Bend Community Contra Dance website |
