Hey everybody,
The Celtic Music Session has moved! Dudley's is unable to host this month due to holiday traffic. Plus, some of the regulars can't make it up the stairs. Fortunately, a couple has stepped forward and offered to host at their house. In order to protect their privacy, please email us at [email protected] or contact us via Facebook for more details. Thank you and hope to see you there!

Every third Friday there's a Celtic Music Session at Dudley's, a local bookstore right here in Bend. The musicians usually start playing between 6 and 6:30. This month they'll also be meeting upstairs, so don't worry if you don't see them right when you walk in.
Griff and I will be there and doing a bit of dancing (assuming there's room). We'd love to see you all there! Also, for those who don't know what a session is, it's a group of musicians getting together to play music, usually in a public place, but sometimes in a house. They claim a corner, make a circle and play. The goal is for them to have fun playing music and for the other people there to enjoy the music as background noise. Only if someone is singing is it expected that you quiet down and listen. If you'd like to join in the session, grab and chair and join the circle. If you'd like to dance, you can do that too. Since Céili Class is over for the year and on hiatus for the moment while Griff and I decide if we can keep teaching, I thought I'd post some other semi-related dancing opportunities for those of you who also have itchy feet. :)
This Saturday there is, as it says in the post title, an opportunity to do some Contra dancing here in Bend, Oregon. For those who don't know, Contra is an American (well, it comes from Appalachia/New England) type of folk dance that's kind of a mix of English, Scottish and French--all three of which are related to Irish. So, if you've taken our class, or done Victorian or Scottish dance classes here in town there will definitely be moves/figures you'll recognize. Usually with a twist that makes them Contra as opposed to anything else, but still. It's been a while since we got to go to Contra, but if I remember correctly it's similar to English in that there isn't any or much footwork which makes it pretty easy to pick up. Griff and I are definitely hoping to at least stop by and dance a little and we would love to see you there too! So, on to the details-- When: Saturday, December 12th at 7pm (They're having a tamale dinner beforehand though if anyone is interested) Where: The Boys and Girls Club (500 NW Wall Street) Please wear clean dance shoes to help preserve their floor. Admission: $8/person (Or $20 for the dinner and dancing) If you have more questions Bend Community Contra Dance's website is here. Otherwise, hope to see you there! See the relevant details on the poster we've reposted below.
In the words of Ceili of the Valley, "Bring your checkbook and please come support Ceili of the Valley at our annual fundraiser with LIVE music and do your holiday shopping. Dust off your shoes and have some reel fun." If you have other questions or would like to see what else the Ceili of the Valley Society does, their website is here. |
