It's Contra time again this weekend!
Contra is an American (well, it comes from Appalachia/New England) type of folk dance that's kind of a mix of English, Scottish and French--all three of which are related to Irish. So, if you've taken our class, or done Victorian or Scottish dance classes here in town, there will definitely be moves/figures you'll recognize. Even if you haven't tried any of those things, we would still definitely encourage you to come try it out. Folk dancing is usually designed to be friendly to beginners. For example, this Saturday, January 15th, at 7:00pm, there's a lesson before the actual dancing begins at 7:30pm. It is also likely that each dance will be taught before the music starts and that the moves will be called before you're expected to do them. So, grab comfy shoes and a water bottle, and bring your $8 and yourself to the Boys and Girls Club (500 NW Wall Street) this Saturday. Griff and I are going to try and go and we'd love to see you there! For more information, check out Bend Community Contra's website.

It's Celtic music session time again!
This Friday, January 15th, at around 6:30pm there will be music at Dudley's (a local bookstore at 135 NW Minnesota Avenue). Everybody is welcome to come play, listen or dance. (Griff and I will probably come and dance a couple of dances.) If you'd like more information, check out their facebook page. Hope to see you there! And we're back! Posting events at least. :)
The first Portland ceili of the year is this Friday, January 15th at 8:00pm (if you come early there's a bit of a lesson). They're at the Norse Hall at 111 NE 11th Avenue. It's $12 for general admission and $8 for PCS (Portland Ceili Society) members. There will be live music and the dances will be taught and/or called. If you're headed over the mountains, you should definitely give it a try. For more information, PCS's website is here. |
