Standing up for civil rights can be hard. But it doesn't always have to be. Sometimes, it's as simple as listening--to the music in this case. Tomorrow, March 5th, from 2 to 6pm, Dudley's Celtic Session and The Old Time Jam are partnering with the ACLU to hold a Sanctuary Session at Dudley's Bookshop and Cafe (135 NW Minnesota Ave).
Sanctuary Sessions are a coast-to-coast benefit for civil rights being run by traditional music groups across the country. So come enjoy some great music, and be part of a national movement to support civil rights along the way. Entry is free, and donations to the ACLU are encouraged. Looking for something fun to do a little closer to home than the Portland ceili? You're in luck! The Celtic Music Session is also this Friday at Dudley's Bookshop and Cafe (135 NW Minnesota Ave, Bend, OR 97701). They'll start playing around 6:30 and go until around 9pm. If you have an instrument and want to join in, you're welcome to do so. There might even be a little dancing. So come enjoy a treat and a drink and some lovely tunes!
It's time for our local Scottish friends' ball and workshop! This Saturday (October 8th) in Sisters they'll be learning during the day and dancing the night away. It sounds like a lot of fun and we wish we could go. If you can, check it out and let us know how it goes! A word to the wise though-- a Scottish ball or ceilidh is not the same as an Irish ceili. Meese, if you don't have experience doing Scottish dance just know that you may be spectating at the ball. The workshop, as far as I know, is open to everyone though. :) And if you're interested in being able to go to the ball and dance next year, don't forget to take the Scottish class every Monday from 7 to 9pm at the Sons of Norway. ^_^ For more details about the Workshop and Ball this Saturday, please check out the Scottish Country Dance of Bend and Central Oregon's Facebook event. |
