Celebrate Celtic culture through a day of fun at the Ceili of the Valley’s inaugural Samhain Celtic New Year Festival this Saturday from 10am to 4pm at Grant Community School (725 Market St NE, Salem, Oregon 97301)!
Learn about the Celtic roots of Halloween. See demonstrations of art, cooking and dance. Take part in a workshop for fiddle, whistle, uilleann pipes or bodhrán. Visit the children’s area for printmaking, clay working, coloring, knot creation and more. The day’s festivities will conclude with an evening concert featuring Portland-based traditional Irish band Na Rosai from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VFW Hall (630 Hood St. NE, just a block from the Grant School campus). This month's Salem ceili is special. It'll be Pan Celtic and include dances from several different Celtic Nations. It sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. If you're free on Friday, zip on over to Salem and check it out! You might even see some wild Meese there. ^_^
For more details check out the poster below, the Facebook event or Ceili of the Valley's website. We know this reminder is a bit late, but if you're looking for something fun to do this Friday night, the ceili in Salem is sure to be a grand time! You may even see the Meese there!
Details below on the poster, or in the Facebook event. To find out more about Ceili of the Valley, please visit their website. Yay! Ceili time!
This Friday, Griff and I will be heading over the mountains to the Ceili of the Valley's monthly ceili to dance and celebrate my (26th!) birthday. Salem is a great place to try out a ceili if you've never been before and it's an excellent place to keep dancing if you're already hooked. If you're interested, check out the poster below, Ceili of the Valley's website and/or the Facebook event. (Or you can always ask us questions.) We'll be driving over the day of the ceili and we do have some space in the car, so if you need a ride, let us know. Hope to see you there! So, I know the Portland and Tualatin ceili groups are done for the season, BUT there's still the Salem one! This Friday, May 13th, at 7:00pm. All ages are welcome! As usual, there will be live music and a lesson beforehand so you can learn the steps.
Admission is $10 general, $8 for members of the Ceili of the Valley Society, and $5 for students, with a $30 max for families. The event will be at the VFW Hall at 630 Hood St. NE, Salem, Oregon. For more information, here's the CVS Facebook page and the CVS website See the relevant details on the poster we've reposted below.
In the words of Ceili of the Valley, "Bring your checkbook and please come support Ceili of the Valley at our annual fundraiser with LIVE music and do your holiday shopping. Dust off your shoes and have some reel fun." If you have other questions or would like to see what else the Ceili of the Valley Society does, their website is here. It's second Friday again, which means it's time for another céili in Salem, Oregon!
Céilis in Salem are the best--in my opinion--for beginners because their lessons are good (especially when Maldon is teaching and calling like she is this month) and they're very family friendly. So if you can go, definitely do! We've reposted their poster below which should have most of the details you'll want, but if you have other questions or would like to see what else the Ceili of the Valley Society does, their website is here. So, if you missed out on getting to see Na Rósaí last week, you have another chance! Ceili of the Valley is hosting them for a Celtic New Year concert in Salem at 7pm on October 17th at the VFW Hall (630 NE Hood Street Salem, OR). Tickets are sold at the door only. It's $15 for adults, $10 for students, and kids 10 and under are free. If you'd like to know more about Na Rósaí, their website is here. The link to the Facebook event for the concert is here. It looks like great fun, so check it out if you can! Since it's Griff posting this, I'm a bit late. Tomorrow morning at 11:15, the Ceili of the Valley Society (CVS) is doing a ceili flash mob at the Salem Saturday Market. It looks like a lot of fun, and I really wish I could go. Anyone who wants to be involved should meet at the Employment building at 875 Union Street. Here is the link if you want more information. Ceili on!
